Design Considerations for High Performance One-port Saw Resonators on Quartz

The design of high performance SAW resonators requires detailed knowledge of the properties and characteristic behavior of their key constituents like the interdigital transducer (IDT) and the reflector gratings. This paper presents and analyzes various design considerations for high performance SAW resonators. Analytical models for a single design are used to simultaneously optimize the IDT and the reflectors. In addition, a novel theoretical condition for harmonic rejection inside the resonance cavity is presented. Our work demonstrates how the device performance can be improved by properly accounting for these design considerations and recommendations.
